Roll up, roll up, there are only a few more sleeps left until the Mossman Show!

Show president Matt Hatfield says the event, which will be held this Sunday and Monday, is rated highly by the legion of performers, stallholders and others who travel around Australia’s show circuit - including the woodchoppers.

“They reckon our show’s one of the best ones they’ve got,” Mr Hatfield says.

“It’s just a good country show.”

Mr Hatfield is expecting more than 10,000 people to pass through the gates, and says this year’s event is important for the whole Douglas Shire following recent tough times with the sugar mill shutting down and Cyclone Jasper hurting the region.

“We’re looking at a huge show this year to try to maintain some positive energy in Mossman.”

Events include dog jumping, tractor pulling, woodchopping, pig racing, farm exhibits, show rides, freestyle motocross, a reptile show and fireworks.

“An agricultural show is what we pride ourselves on,” Mr Hatfield says.

Young rural ambassador Mia Scomazzon says she always looks forward to show time.

“I’ve always gone to the show since I was little,” Ms Scomazzon says.

“It’s always been a good spot to meet up with friends and family.

“We always have a good time.”

And what can she recommend for show goers?

“Probably the motorbike show, love it.

“I enjoy it every year, they have so much fun up there.”

The 73rd Mossman Show is on at the Mossman Showgrounds, Jack Street, Mossman, on Sunday, July 20, and Monday, July 21.
