The Port Douglas Crocs men and women both had excellent wins at home on Saturday against Cairns Lions outfits.

The men were one point up at three-quarter time before putting the foot down to record a 26-point victory, 15.10 (100) to 11.8 (74).

Best players were Ben Mcphee, Murphy Short, Peter Megee, Zayne Moore, Harvey Moore and Jai Nanscawen, while Jacob Zboril kicked five goals and Kye Chapple four.

And the women knocked off the top team in a thrilling two-point win against the Lions, 4.5 (29) to 3.9 (27).

Best were Caity Walsh, Grace Lanigan, Kayla McInerney, Luca Roulstone, Jaimi Byrne and Sophie Jeffrey, while the four individual goalkickers were McInerney, Hannah Hyland, Chloe Conway and Laura Waldron.

This week, the Crocs are at home to North Cairns Tigers, with the men’s team at 2pm and the women at 4.45pm at Port Douglas oval.

The Crocs men sit in fourth on the ladder, while the Tigers are second - a win would be their biggest scalp of the year.

And, after a slow start to the year, the women have gained significant momentum, winning three in a row to take them to fourth on the ladder - the second-placed Tigers outfit will be another big test for a side growing in confidence.

The Port Douglas Reef Raiders had a narrow loss on the road to Barron Trinity Bulls on Saturday, 19-22.

Jacob Compton scored the Raiders’ only try of the match in the first half, while kicker Jean Valette was on song, putting four penalties and a conversion over the crossbar.

Port Douglas is at home against the Northern Beaches Mudcrabs this Saturday from 4pm.

Rugby League

It was a tough day for Mossman Sharks last Saturday, with a 6-56 loss to Atherton.

Not as tough as Edmonton’s day, however, with the hapless Storm conceding an incredible 120 points and 21 tries to a rampant Tully Tigers, with the score in that game 120-12.

In the Sharks game, Davin Crampton scored a consolation try in the 70th minute after a horror first 65 minutes, where nine tries were conceded.

This week (June 21), the Sharks are at home at Coronation Park to Innisfail Leprechauns on Saturday from 6pm.
