School artists have a brush with bullying… and survive to tell the tale
ANTI-BULLYING MURALS
Mossman students have been using their artistic skills to help combat bullying.
A group of Mossman State High School students took part in a poster-creation competition where the winners were given the chance to work with professional artist “Wally” to graffiti their designs onto large panels displayed at the school.
Mural artist Curtis Lafragua says he took inspiration from YouTube and other films he has watched for his successful work.
“I wanted to explore new styles,” Curtis says.
“The colours represent the way people may feel when they are bullied.”
Curtis has been drawing for 10 years but has only recently begun trying to incorporate the human form into his artwork.
He hopes to use his skills to forge a career in game development or become involved in art for the music industry.
Savannah Hind and Selene Fry are proud to have their murals on display.
“When people are bullied it can make them feel alone,” the pair agreed.
“That’s why we chose the space theme, because noise can’t travel there.”
Savannah and Selene also have a long-time passion for art - Savannah’s room is filled with artwork she has created across the years.
