Next month locals will have a special opportunity to attend a free screening at Port Douglas’s Clink Theatre of a live recording of Ballet Preljocaj’s Swan Lake.

The screening will be hosted across two days from June 13-15, with bookings essential.

One of France’s leading contemporary ballet companies, led by renowned director Angelin Preljocaj, has reimagined Tchaikovsky's iconic tale of love and betrayal as a bold, modern-day tragedy.

The production is being recorded at Brisbane’s Queensland Performing Arts Centre on June 4, accompanied by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, as part of the highly acclaimed QPAC International Series.

The screening will then be shown at 17 regional venues across Queensland to help increase reach.

“We are thrilled to bring this extraordinary performance to our community,” said Douglas Theatre Arts Group president Michael Kerr.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to experience world-class ballet right here at The Clink Theatre, and we are proud to partner with QPAC to make the arts more accessible.”

The QPAC International Series began in 2009, welcoming some of the world's finest performing arts companies.

The regional screenings of this interpretation of Swan Lake are supported by both QPAC and the State Government.

Arts Minister John-Paul Langbroek says the regional screenings help bring together audiences across the state to engage with the production.

“Since its inception in 2009, the International Series has engaged almost 185,000 people and injected more than $32m into Queensland’s economy,” Mr Langbroek says.

The production will be screened in 4k high definition.
