Most golfers dream of hitting a hole-in-one, but one Port Douglas player this month landed his third.

“It was 136 metres, with a nine iron, drew it on over the bunker, it pitched about three metres pin high right at the hole and hopped and spun back in,” says golfer Chris McMullen of his perfect shot on the Mirage Country Club 15th hole.

“When you visualise it, and it happens, it makes a big difference, I think.”

McMullen says this was his favourite of the three, and this one did not cost him so much either.

In one of the more baffling golfing traditions, when you hit a hole-in-one, it is you who has to shout the drinks at the bar.

“It was pretty quiet, late Saturday arvo here, there were only about 10 people here, so I got away with that one,” he jokes.

But, not so about five years ago, when he landed an ace on the Mirage 18th.

“It was the first day they opened the bar after Covid, so the bar was full, and you have to shout the bar, which cost me a fortune.”
