The Muddies Third Grade cricket team lost to Mareeba on Saturday in a hard-fought match.

After winning the toss and batting, Muddies' opener Matt Foy held the innings together with a well-compiled 43.

Unfortunately for the Port Douglas-based team, however, just as he was stepping up the run rate, he was dismissed after a mis-timed ramp shot fell into the hands of first slip.

Setting 8/104 in their allotted 35 overs on a slow deck and outfield, the Muddies were right in the game when Mareeba was on 6/33.

But a few dropped catches did not help the cause, with the Bandits finishing on 7/106 in the 28th over.

Best with the ball were Adrian Bannerman (3/25), Jackson Hopkins (2/15) and Cam Williams (2/11).

The Thirds play Mulgrave at home in Port Douglas this Saturday from 1pm.

The Fourth Grade team put up a far better showing this week, finishing with a narrow loss to Atherton.

Atherton posted 10/118 in its innings, with spinner Keel Sorensen the best of the bowlers with 3/11.

In reply, the Muddies scored 6/111 in their 35 overs.

This Sunday, the Fourths face Cassowary Coast Cyclones at home from 12.30pm.

AFL Cairns

There has been a host of re-signings at the Port Douglas Crocs in the wake of six-time premiership coach Brad Cooper this month returning to lead the club.

Daniel Moore has been appointed assistant coach, while AFL Cairns MVP award winner and member of the Team of the Year Sam Fairclough has signed up for 2026.

Fellow Team of the Year player Harvey Moore has also signed back on, along with Brodie Francis, Sam Wall and Jackson Hopkins.

Gaelic Football

Four Mile Gaelic Football Club took part in the Australasian Gaelic Games in Cairns on the weekend.

Four Mile lost to Geelong Gaels 0-0 to 7-4, Gold Coast Gaels 0-1 to 5-5 and Cairns Chieftains 0-5 to 12-6.

In the women’s intermediate regional final, Gold Coast/Townsville beat North Queensland 2-4 to 1-5.

Golf

The Wet Season Indoor Golf League kicks off at the Daddyshack in Port Douglas this month.

The format is two-person nine-hole ambrose, with the best stableford score each week winning weekly cash prizes, leading to a grand final at the end of the season.
