The red and yellow flags are officially back in the sand at Four Mile Beach following the Port Douglas Surf Life Saving Club’s annual Raising of the Flags Ceremony last Sunday, April 12.
The ceremony marks the formal commencement of the 2026 patrol season, serving as a key milestone for both the club and the wider Douglas Shire community.
The event brought together volunteer lifesavers, local sponsors, and partners to celebrate the dedication required to keep the region's most iconic beach safe for residents and visitors alike.
The season opener also featured a highly successful Pink Patrol, which saw 14 women from the club taking to the beach to highlight the vital role female lifesavers play in the movement.
Adding to the celebrations was the announcement of the new Surf Life Saving Queensland School Ambassadors. A group of young members was officially recognised for achieving ambassador status within their respective schools, marking a significant step forward for the club's next generation of leaders.
The club is now entering its peak operational period, with volunteer patrols scheduled to ensure a safe environment at Four Mile Beach throughout the coming months.
