A 41-year-old Mossman man has been arrested on public-nuisance and obstructing police charges after road workers had rocks thrown at them and were verbally abused on Monday.

Police spotted a grey car at 11am on Monday, July 6, which they said was parked across a footpath on the Captain Cook Highway south of the Mowbray River.

After speaking to the driver, they tried to arrest him for having outstanding warrants.

Police allege he “refused to comply with police directions”, shut the door, and tried to start the engine.

“A physical struggle ensued, and police removed the man from the vehicle, and he was placed in the police vehicle,” they alleged.

Earlier that morning road workers were verbally abused by a driver and had rocks thrown at them.

The man was charged with committing public nuisance and obstructing police.

He is scheduled to appear in Mossman Magistrates Court on Wednesday, July 22.
