Meet the inseparable senior trio ruling Kubirri Aged Care Centre
SENIOR WRAP
At Newsport, we report the news, but we’re just as dedicated to giving our community a voice. Seniors are the very fabric of our region. That’s why we’re putting the spotlight on our local golden agers, because when it comes to local heart and soul, nothing beats their stories.
At Mossman’s Kubirri Aged Care Centre, a special friendship between residents Rosetta, Pamela, and Sheila is absolute proof of that. The three women have become as thick as thieves.
Through shared hobbies, regular visits and caring conversations, the trio has forged a close bond that brings a lot of warmth and laughter to the centre.
The story started about two years ago when Rosetta moved to Kubirri from Mossman. She settled in almost instantly after crossing paths with Pamela in the Ribbonwood Wing.
“We developed relationships very quickly,” Rosetta said.
Even when Pamela later relocated to a different wing of the facility, the distance didn’t slow them down.
“Every now and then, she comes and visits me in my room, and I go and visit her in her area,” Rosetta explained.
Through Pamela, she also met Sheila, who she describes as “a lovely person”.
Pamela arrived at Kubirri two years ago in May and remembers instantly connecting with Rosetta.
“We just hit it off straight away and created a relationship right from the start,” she said.
These days, the three women are a fixture in the sunroom, regularly gathering for meals and afternoon craft sessions.
And while their creative tastes might differ, the companionship is what matters most.
“Sheila does her colouring in and I do my diamond art,” Pamela said. “Rosetta does crochet and knitting, we all do our own craft, but we do it together.”
That sense of connection has even spilled outside the centre's walls. Pamela’s regular visitors from the community have essentially been adopted by the group.
“My friends from outside Kubirri come and visit me here regularly and would join us and now become friends with Sheila and Rosetta too,” she said.
For Sheila, who moved to Kubirri just over a year ago, this tight-knit circle has made all the difference in the world.
“I didn't have local friends when I came here, but I have them now,” Sheila said.
When asked what she enjoys most about living at Kubirri, Sheila doesn't have to think twice “Friendship.”
