Generations connect at Port Douglas State School

Community bonds are flourishing at Port Douglas State School, where the senior buddy program is in full swing. 

Year 5 and 6 students have been connecting with their Oz Care buddies through trivia, challenge games, and arts and crafts, proving that the best connections often happen across generations.

Kitchen Heat & STEM Stars at Mossman High

Mossman State High students recently swapped the classroom for a bustling street-food scene during their highly anticipated Food Truck Stall Event. 

As part of their senior Hospitality assessment, students applied real-world skills in cookery, teamwork, and business management. 

The event was a massive success, with students serving 195 dishes and every stall selling out early due to high demand.

Acting Head of Department Keone Calvert praised the students for managing everything from food safety to professional service under strict timeframes. 

The school’s momentum continues as Year 10 STEM Ambassador Elizabeth prepares to head to Brisbane, representing the region at an elite camp designed to inspire the next generation of women in science and technology.

Mother’s Day Magic at St Augustine’s State School

St Augustine’s primary celebrated local mothers, nans, and other significant mother figures in spectacular fashion. 

Partnering with Cafe Fresq for a delicious French toast breakfast, the school hosted cultural dances and music concerts that brought the whole “SAINTS” family together. 

Tradition and Tennis at Wonga Beach

Term 2 is off to a flying start at Wonga Beach State School, where students are balancing community spirit with athletic grit. 

Principal Mrs Cubit praised the student body for their "pride and respect" during ANZAC Day commemorations and recent District Cross Country events. 

The energy remains high as students hit the courts three days a week for Red Ball Tennis training and join the “Wednesday Bike Bus” in record numbers, which continues to encourage healthy and active travel to school.

Inside the classroom, the focus on community continues, with Year 5 and 6 students recently writing heartfelt letters to local hospital staff for National Nurses Day.
