A 21-year-old Mareeba man was rushed to hospital yesterday with potentially life-threatening leg and pelvis injuries when a motorbike and car were involved in a collision after a wallaby jumped onto the road.
Paramedics were called to Ray Road at about 7pm on Sunday, May 24, following reports of the incident.
Police reported that the motorbike collided with the wallaby and then a Mitsubishi Lancer.
The driver of the Lancer, also a 21-year-old Mareeba man, was uninjured and helped the other man.
The crash capped off a dangerous weekend on Far North Queensland roads, with two people dying in a three-car incident near Port Douglas and another woman injured in a crash in Julatten, both on Friday.
In the Julatten incident, at close to 9pm at night on Friday, May 22, a woman in her 30s sustained significant head, back and pelvic injuries after a crash on Mossman-Mount Molloy Road.
She was rushed to Mossman Hospital, then airlifted to Cairns Hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition.
