YOU SAID IT! What flags should we fly?
Letters and comments
Ben Ponsonby
Fly the national flag. The state and other flags can be beside the national flag.
Raymond Fapani
Why start a fight between everyone. Fly the Australian and aboriginal flag end of story. The media is 99% of the problem.
Jackie Driscoll
Only one flag . We are one country standing under one flag. Also please no offence here but the other flag is a commercial entity.
Debbie Edds
Would have thought the council had better things to be to think about
Mary Kanary
2 flags only. Aboriginal land was never formally seceded. Kuku-Yalanji country it is. Aboriginal flag. Not TI. Torres Strait is a long way from Douglas Shire. So yup, Aboriginal and Australian, seeing the commonwealth govt, under British oversee, is the current ruling power and funding body.
Corey Seaton
Wow, so many ignorant comments. There are actually 5 legally recognised flags under the Flags Act 1953. While Sections 3 and 4 establish the National Flag and Red Ensign, Section 5 gives the Governor-General the authority to proclaim others. This is why the Aboriginal Flag, the Torres Strait Islander Flag, and the Defence Force Ensign are all legally and officially Flags of Australia. So at a minimum I would expect the Australian, Aboriginal, TI and the QLD Flags.
Graeme Mcalpine
No brainer the Australian flag that unites all Australians not a flag of a minority that divides people.
What a load of rubbish… illegal dumping exposed
Kringle Card
It makes me laugh hearing ppl complain about tip costs around here. I've been living up here for over 3.5 years ,Originally from gippslands vic we used to pay $300+ for a 8x5 caged trailer full of rubbish & I get charged just over $20 for the same load here & yet there is still ppl complaining that its to high.
Jason Allison
Cost of living & exorbitant dumping fees contribute. You'd think the shire would make the correlation between the two.
Joan Lancaster
You would think the council would have a free dumping day a couple of times a year bit much to ask I suppose as they can’t even clean the gutters.
Caroline Arcus
Maybe if the operators of the dump were consistent with the dumping rates and not have "MATES RATES". ( as seen on Facebook). As a business we use the dump regularly and depending on the operator - the rates are different every time and advice given to make dumping fridges more cost effective by removing the gas - also incorrect. Totally understand that fees are required but the rates vary and advice given one week is not acceptable the next week.
Max Moss
I recently went to the dump and couldn’t believe the fees they charge. If the council provided free dumping days or discounts for pensioners or reduced their fees maybe the illegal dumping would decrease.
Joanne Pollard
If the council had a hard rubbish pick up a couple of times a year there would be less bumping of rubbish.
