Douglas Police have called for witnesses following a traffic accident at Wangetti.

At around 7.15pm Saturday night a blue Mazda 6 was heading towards Cairns along the Captain Cook Highway at Wangetti when a small white vehicle crossed onto the wrong side of the road while overtaking.

Police said the Mazda 6 was forced to swerve to avoid a collision, which forced the car to leave the roadway and crash into a tree.

Luckily, Police confirmed the driver only sustained minor head injuries.

The small white vehicle continued driving north along the Captain Cook Highway.

Police said anyone who witnessed the incident, or has CCTV or dashcam vision, is urged to contact them.
