SPORT DIGEST: Muddies Fourth Grade vows to bounce back after innings shocker
Around the grounds
The Port Douglas Muddies Fourth Grade cricket team has been setting records on the weekend - but not in a good way.
The side was dismissed for an incredible 10/8 in 11 overs against Mareeba on Sunday, which included seven ducks and a top score of 3.
Veteran Mareeba medium pacer Ross “Rosco” Ferguson did most of the damage, taking 7/3 in six overs.
The day was not a total loss for the Muddies, who bowled first and dismissed the 10-man Mareeba team for 71 in less than 25 overs.
That innings included three ducks, bringing the total for the day to 10.
Four bowlers took two wickets in an even performance with the ball for Port Douglas.
The Third Grade side, however, fared much better, registering a comfortable win against Norths.
After losing the toss and being sent in to field, Port Douglas conceded some early runs as opener Gagandeep Brar (53) sent a few big hits to the boundary.
But Jackson Hopkins (0/16 from seven overs) was keeping it tight from one end, and the Muddies’ bowlers soon worked their way on top to restrict Norths to 8/126 from their 35 overs.
Best of the bowlers was spinner Cam Adam, who took 3/12 from his allotted seven overs.
The Muddies chased the Norths total down in the 28th over with three wickets out.
Andy Fenwick top scored with 38, while Shaun Hollis scored 36 and Adam made 29 not out to help steer the team home.
This Saturday, the Third Grade is at home to Mareeba from 1pm, while the Fourth Grade is determined to bounce back against Atherton at home on Sunday from 12.30pm.
