Fire destroyed a Mossman house on Sunday afternoon, the blaze burning for more than an hour and causing the two storey house to collapse on itself in the wake of the blaze.

The Queensland Fire Department was on scene at the Alchera Drive property just after 1pm on Sunday, five crews attending to battle the blaze.

The blaze raged for more than an hour, with onlookers capturing footage of the drama and sending to Newsport.

A QFD spokesman said a the fire was contained around 2pm.

“Crews were able to contain that fire to the house … it didn’t spread to any other properties,” he said.

“I understand that there has been a structural collapse, so quite significant damage.”

While no people were inside the home at the time of the fire, neighbouring properties had been evacuated as a precaution.

Greg McLean, who had once lived in the old Queenslander home and drove past the blaze as it took place, said it was disappointing to see it lost to the fire.

“I think it is one of the oldest house in Mossman,’’ he said.

The sole occupant of the home was uninjured.

Crews remained at the property through the afternoon mopping up and monitoring hotspots for flare-ups.

Criminal Investigation Branch detectives are investigating the cause of the fire and urge anyone with information or vision, to contact police.

If you have information about this, or any other, incident contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestoppersqld.com.au.
