The Port Douglas Marlin Challenge team is all set for the big event, running from October 1 to 4, with the winner’s cheques drawn up for what is the biggest prize pool in the tournament’s history… more than $60,000.

In his 16th year on the committee and 8th year as president, Lynton Heffer says the event is now a ground-breaking event in the Douglas Shire.

“The concept is to tag as many black marlin over four days no matter the size. We have around a dozen of the biggest and best qualified boats and  skippers and crew competing.

“There's anglers coming from across the globe including Germany, Singapore and the USA.

“We also have a Netflix Film Crew filming the event for a series production plus the ultimate Mothership as support.

“With some serious backing we are already on track to make this the best Heavy Tackle Marlin Fishing tournament in Australia and the southern hemisphere. It's exciting to say the least and it's Formula 1 Fishing, Grand Prix, Port Douglas Style!”
