Terrible news really. Very hard to build sustainable events. Unfortunately we didn’t see any local messaging by the organisers. We see it almost every time, only budget for regional marketing. No budgets allocated to inform and bring local community onboard. TTNQ has message spend requirements for their funding, DSC should have community requirements for its. Hope Run Port Douglas succeeds using this. Informed and passionate locals are a powerful and under valued marketing service.

Very sad to see a fantastic organised event not continuing, we’re making our fourth trip to Port Douglas on the weekend and look forward to cycling in a beautiful part of the world and relaxing in the fab restaurants. PS - I do appreciate these events impact the locals and I thank you all for your understanding, it’s a small price for living in paradise.

All the best Bade for the future event of Run Port Douglas. It's much easier to pack running shoes than a bike. I hope your enthusiasm and energy injected into our region grows.

Geoffrey McLean

The Port Douglas Gran Fondo Festival was a great and unique event providing one morning a year to cycle the iconic Capt Cook Highway. There are many cyclists who are sad to see the end of this vibrant event promoting community engagement, good health and our magnificent region. Thank you Bade and your team for your efforts to bring event tourism to our region

Thank goodness says a large portion of the Douglas Shire Council community.

Jackie Driscoll

Hang on a minute… Wasn’t this the event that was supposed to bring $7m each year?

Lawrence Mason

Let’s hope our Council tries to get more for impacted residents if there is another proposal.

Time to give Kuranda a miss

Good morning,

My wife and I are annual visitors to Port Douglas, we have been holidaying there for the last ten years. We were there just last week.

We always look forward to our Holiday there, and over the years have done all of the usual touristy things. Barrier reef, Mossman Gorge, Daintree etc.. which are amazing.

We also enjoy Palm Cove and visits to Kuranda. On this occasion we did the SkyRail and train journey which we loved.

We were disappointed when we visited the Kuranda Village on this occasion. Compared to previous visits that we have had there it has really declined which is sad to see.

We were surprised that going back several years ago the Market was thriving with different types of interesting stalls. On this occasion we only found two stalls and the whole atmosphere of the place seemed flat and interesting.

From our point of view we will probably give Kuranda a miss in future, but look forward into holidaying in Port Douglas again next year.

Regards,

Serge De Blasio
